Anthony Rizzo not in lineup vs. Mariners after neck injury

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo was removed from the team’s game on Sunday versus the San Diego Padres for precautionary reasons after suffering a neck injury. On Monday, Rizzo received mixed updates on the injury prior to New York’s game against the Seattle Mariners, per Bryan Hoch.

“Anthony Rizzo is out of the Yankees lineup with a stiff neck, per Aaron Boone. Rizzo will receive treatment today and could be available off the bench. No further tests scheduled,” Hoch shared on Twitter.

Rizzo being out of the Yankees’ lineup obviously isn’t ideal. That said, this ailment seemingly could have been much worse. The fact that Rizzo could reportedly be available off the bench is a tremendous sign. Assuming no setback occurs, it appears Anthony Rizzo dodged a bullet. Nevertheless, the team will still closely monitor the situation.

The Yankees have dealt with no shortage of injury concerns in 2023, so Rizzo’s status will be pivotal moving forward. Somewhat quietly, Rizzo has enjoyed a strong 2023 season. The veteran first baseman is currently slashing .304/.376/.505 with an .880 OPS and 11 home runs.

The protection for Aaron Judge in the lineup was questionable after Giancarlo Stanton went down with an injury. Rizzo’s performance has helped to add another intimidating bat to give opponents something else to think about. It’s also taken pressure off Judge.

The Yankees will play the Mariners on Monday night at 9:40 PM EST in Seattle. New York will look to kickoff their series against the Mariners with a victory while hoping Rizzo can return soon.

Royal Blood slammed after hitting out at ‘pathetic’ Big Weekend crowd

Royal Blood

Royal Blood made their feelings clear at Big Weekend (Picture: BBC)

Royal Blood had some rather strong words for the crowd at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

The rock duo took to the stage in Dundee as part of a stellar line-up featuring headliners The 1975 and Lewis Capaldi.

Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher were probably expecting a warm reception, but they were left somewhat disappointed.

This led to them branding the crowd ‘pathetic.’

The Figure It Out hitmakers got sarcastic with revellers from the get-go, with frontman Mike taking to the microphone.

‘Wel,l I guess I should introduce ourselves seeing as no one actually knows who we are,’ he quipped.

Royal Blood

‘We’re called Royal Blood and this is rock music.’

He then asked the audience: ‘Who likes rock music?’

After the crowd responded with cheers, Mike mocked: ‘Nine people, brilliant.’

Mike proceeded to introduce drummer Ben, asking the audience to say hello.

He then added: ‘We’re happy to clap ourselves because that was so pathetic. Well done Ben

But Mike didn’t stop there, oh no, as he turned to speak directly to the camera as the set streamed live on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

‘Can you clap for us? You’re busy? Can you clap? Oh, yes. Even he is clapping.’

Turning back to the thousands-strong crowd, he said: ‘What does that say about you?’

Finally, Ben slammed down on his drumkit and the pair left the stage – but not before Mike took off his guitar and put two middle fingers up at the crowd.

Well then.

Unsurprisingly, the comments didn’t go down too well – and Twitter was quick with the scathing roasting.

‘I love Royal Blood but this is David Brent level cringe. A grown man talking about rock music and walking off like one of the real housewives of Beverly Hills’, one mocked.

Royal Blood

Even fans were left with a sour taste in their mouths after the sarcastic remarks (Picture: BBC)

‘How utterly embarrassing! Imagine agreeing to play the Radio 1 Big Weekend for loads of money, knowing you’re sandwiched between Niall Horan & Lewis Capaldi and then doing this. Entitled p****k’, another tweeted.

‘Got a feeling Radio 1 won’t be playing much Royal Blood from now on’, another cringed.

‘Royal Blood are alright but I don’t think they’re of a high enough standard to be pulling this p***y diva nonsense’, another blasted.

‘if you want people to clap harder for you then play better music’, one declared.

Others said their behaviour has seen them go down ‘severly in the estimations of your own fan base’.

Ouch.

Royal Blood typically post pictures from their gigs on social media, thanking every city and venue after their shows… it’ll come as no surprise that they haven’t shared anything from Big Weekend.

Reps for Royal Blood have been contacted for comment.

Joel Embiid video telling Nick Nurse to ‘stop b**ching’ resurfaces after Philly hiring

It looks like Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid will now have more chances to tell Nick Nurse to “stop b**ching” … or not.

After the Sixers decided to hire Nurse to be Doc Rivers’ replacement as their head coach, an old video of Embiid quickly went viral. In the said clip, Embiid was recalling his heated exchange with the then-Toronto Raptors coach during Game 2 of their 2022 playoff series. When asked about his conversations with Nurse, the Philly superstar said that he told him to “stop b**ching about calls.”

Fans can’t help but talk about it since they’ll now be on the same side over a year later.

Making things even more interesting, a lot of fans now the pain that Nick Nurse has brought Embiid in the past. Who could forget how Nurse guided the Raptors to the NBA title back in 2019? They went through the Sixers in the Conference Semifinals that year, and they really sent home Philly in Game 7 via a heartbreaking buzzer-beater by Kawhi Leonard. That moment even gave birth to the Joel Embiid crying meme!

How the partnership between Nick Nurse, Embiid and the Sixers develop will surely be intriguing to watch over the next few months. Of course even with their history, it’s unlikely that it will be an issue as they look to transform the franchise into a contender. However, there’s a good chance there will be some heated moments as well considering how vocal both Nurse and Embiid are.

Whatever the case may be, the Sixers definitely took a big move with the Nurse hire.

Johnny Depp has been forced to postpone his upcoming US performances after suffering a painful ankle injury.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has had a busy few weeks, after appearing at the Cannes Film Festival to promote his new film, Jeanne du Barry.

He then jetted to London for a concert at the Royal Albert Hall last Monday in honor of Jeff Beck, before he was due join his Hollywood Vampires bandmates in New York, New Hampshire and Boston for their ongoing tour this week.

However, the 59-year-old has now announced that he will be taking a brief step back from performing on doctor’s orders.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: ‘My dear friends, I am sorry to say that I have fractured my ankle, which is a drag!!!

‘It began as a hairline break but somewhere between Cannes and the Royal Albert Hall, it got worse rather than better.

‘Several medical professionals have strongly suggested I avoid any and all activity for the moment and so am sadly unable to travel at this time.

‘To that end, the guys and I are very sorry to miss you in New Hampshire, Boston and New York but fear not, I promise we will bring an amazing show to all of you in Europe and bring our absolute best to the East Coast later this summer and make it up to those who have paid for those shows!!!

‘Again, sincerest apologies. All my love and respect, JD x.’

Johnny added that the dates had officially been moved – with the Hollywood Vampires instead taking the stage in Boston on July 28, before appearing in New Hampshire the following day, and performing in New York on July 30.

Aside from his music, the Wonka actor is gearing up for the release of Jeanne du Barry, which marks his first film in three years.

He appeared in Cannes to promote the flick, which also stars Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard and Melvil Poupaud, and posed for pictures on the red carpet.

During his appearance, he reportedly rejected any notion of a ‘comeback’ – following his highly-publicized defamation trial win against ex-wife Amber Heard, over her 2018 op-ed – insisting that he ‘didn’t go anywhere’.

‘I keep wondering about the word ‘comeback,’ because I didn’t go anywhere,’ he said, via the Hollywood Reporter. ‘I live about 45 minutes away from here, in fact.

‘Maybe people stopped calling … but I didn’t go nowhere.’

‘Comeback is almost like I’m going to come out and do a tap dance, dance my best and hope you approve.

‘I don’t feel boycotted because I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t feel much further need for Hollywood.’

3 best trades using No. 27 pick in 2023 NBA Draft

The Charlotte Hornets own five picks throughout the 2023 NBA Draft. They were unfortunate to come up just short of the No. 1 overall pick and miss out on the consensus top pick Victor Wembanyama, which apparently also cost Hornets owner Michael Jordan half a million bucks. But still, they were fortunate enough in getting the 2nd overall pick and have the chance to pair LaMelo Ball with potential future stars in Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller.

Apart from No. 2, the Hornets will also pick at No. 27 in the first round. There are a number of ways the Hornets can go about that pick. They can, of course, keep it and draft a late first-round talent that can potentially turn out to be a gem.

But they could also package it in a deal to either move up in the draft or acquire another piece they can pair with Ball and whoever they choose at No. 2. Ball is entering his 4th NBA season and after the Hornets regressed this past season, now might be the time to get him the help he needs to turn the franchise around.

With that said, here are two trades the Charlotte Hornets can use with the No. 27 pick of the 2023 NBA Draft.

1. Trade for Clint Capela

The Atlanta Hawks have been on the decline since they made the Eastern Conference Finals a couple of years ago. They lost 4-1 in the first round to the Miami Heat in 2022 and lost in six games to the Boston Celtics in 2023. With that, Charlotte should check on Atlanta and see if they are willing to move on from center Clint Capela.

The Hornets will likely include Terry Rozier in this trade to bring in Capela’s $21.1 million price tag. But given Atlanta’s guard situation, Rozier might not be enticing for them. Still, that doesn’t mean they can’t land Capela in a three-team deal involving another team that can take on Rozier. And the Hornets will have to include the 27th overall pick and potentially some of their second-rounders, too, to sweeten the pot for Atlanta and whoever their third dance partner will be in this deal.

The Hornets have lacked a starting center that complements the play style of Ball since he arrived in the NBA. The 21-year-old plays a flashy brand of basketball and his showboat passes have been wasted on guys like (no offense intended) Mason Plumlee.

Capela, meanwhile, is a legitimate lob threat. He was the benefit of plenty of alley-oops from James Harden back in their days in Houston. Ball has needed a legitimate rim runner that he can throw lobs to or give pin-point passes to on dives to the rim and Capela checks those boxes.

In addition, the Hornets will also need his defensive presence inside the paint. Charlotte has finished in the bottom in both defensive rating and opponents points in the paint in each of the last two seasons.

2. Trade for Kristaps Porzingis

The Hornets could also look to trade for Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards. Washington is a team that is in an identity crisis right now. They still don’t want to move on from Bradley Beal and go on a full rebuild.

In case they come to their senses, Charlotte should check in on Kristaps Porzingis. The Hornets could include the 27th overall pick in this deal and include veteran Gordon Hayward, as well as some future picks to acquire the Latvian big man.

A Ball-Porzingis pairing with either Henderson or Miller can be an intriguing trio to build around. Though he’s lost a bit of a step due to his knee injuries, Porzingis still has a lot of talent.

The former No. 4 overall pick had a relatively healthy 2022-23 campaign for the Wizards, where he played 65 games, the first time he’s done so since his sophomore season. And when he’s healthy, Porzingis has proven that he can produce. He actually had his most productive year last season with averages of 23.3 points and 8.4 rebounds, while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field and 39 percent from three.

3. Trade for Marvin Bagley III

After acquiring former No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman at last February’s trade deadline, the Detroit Pistons have a plethora of young project big men on their roster. It’s clear that the Pistons see Wiseman as a big part of their future since they immediately gave him a starting role upon his arrival. Isaiah Stewart has also established himself as a brute force on both ends of the floor. Also, the Pistons have every incentive to develop Jalen Duren given his strong rookie campaign.

That loaded big rotation sort of leaves Bagley out of the equation. Charlotte could take a flier on the former 2nd overall pick and pair him with Ball in the frontcourt.

Bagley played 42 games last season and started in 25 of them. On the season, he averaged 12.0 points and 6.4 rebounds and shot 52.9 percent from the field.

Yordan Alvarez reaches Aaron Judge territory amid torrid season

As expected, Yordan Alvarez and the Houston Astros dominated the Oakland Athletics in a recent three-game series in Oakland that ended Sunday. In the series finale, Alvarez made sure the A’s felt his power, as he smashed two home runs in a 10-1 Houston victory.

Yordan Alvarez also barged into Aaron Judge territory with yet another game with more than a ball sent out of the park, per ESPN Stats & Info.

“Yordan Alvarez recorded his 15th career multi-HR game (2nd this season). Only Aaron Judge and Kyle Schwarber have more multi-HR games since Alvarez’s 2019 rookie season.”

Alvarez sizzled at the plate on Sunday right from the get-go, as he put the Astros on the board first with a solo homer that went 409 feet long in the opening inning. He would later add more pain to the Athletics’ pitching staff with a parting solo home run in the ninth inning to also add the icing on a brilliant overall performance from the Astros’ offense.

On the season, Yordan Alvarez is on the 94th percentile in the majors in terms of hard hit percentage and 96th in barrel percentage. In other words, Alvarez has simply been outstanding in making powerful contact with the ball this season. So far in the 2023 MLB regular season, the 25-year-old Alvarez is brandishing a triple slash-line of .291/.402/.612 while also owning a total of 14 home runs and 48 RBI.

Alvarez will look to create more noise from the plate in the next series against the Minnesota Twins at home that starts this Monday.

Katy Perry announced her enthusiastic appreciation of her fiancé Orlando Bloom to hilarious effect on Instagram on Sunday.

The chart-topping US singer, 38, who is engaged to the British actor, 46, was clearly feeling warm for his form as she made her thoughts on his sartorial choices public.

Orlando was in Cannes and Monaco over the weekend on a press tour for his upcoming racing movie, Gran Turismo.

On Friday, he took part in a photo call on the Carlton Cannes’ beach club pier with castmates Geri Halliwell Horner, Archie Madekwe and Maximilian Mundt, as well as the movie’s director Neill Blomkamp, best known for helming 2009 sci-fi film District 9.

The Lord of the Rings star opted for a cream single-breasted Paul Smith gradient suit for the occasion, with splashes of blue and green, which he paired with chunky beige shoes.

In tune with the warm weather and scorching sunshine by the water’s edge of the French Riviera city, Orlando opted to go shirtless underneath his suit.

We can all get behind a supportive partner.

Orlando also recently showered Katy in praise following her performance at King Charles’ Coronation Concert, where she belted out her hits Roar and Firework.

Dedicating a sweet message to her the morning after, with whom he shares two-year-old daughter Daisy, Orlando posted a photo of the epic light display that lit up the sky above her as she performed onstage.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor wrote alongside it: ‘Immensely proud of you my love. You always bring the light.’

Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the Cannes photo call for Gran Turismo, the actor called it ‘a movie about dream big enough and you never know what might happen’.

It tells the true story of Jann Mardenborough (Madekwe), who attends the GT Academy, brain child of the real-life Darren Cox, where youngsters adept at playing the video game are trained in real cars on the track for a shot at a racing career.

Orlando plays Danny Moore, who is based on Cox.

The known daredevil enjoyed visiting racing tracks around the world during shooting but had one minor complaint.

‘It was fun to get to play in this space, although I didn’t really get to drive the cars because Darren Cox is the guy who comes up with the idea to do this, he was the marketing genius and the brain behind the idea, so I didn’t get as much fun driving as I’d like!’ he admitted.

Gran Turismo is scheduled to release in UK cinemas on August 11.

MAGA Members of Congress Hate on Debt Deal – Rolling Stone

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is making the rounds touting his debt ceiling agreement with the Biden administration, but the die-hard Trump wing of the party is very unhappy with the deal. Even though the final text of the agreement has yet to be released, GOP Rep. Chip Roy called the deal a “turd sandwich.”

Senator J.D. Vance — who Trump enthusiastically supported in the 2022 elections — posted, “The more I learn about this debt ceiling deal, the more I think it’s bad news. Deficit reduction isn’t even my most important issue. But we didn’t get permitting reform. We didn’t get border security. It’s not entirely clear we got anything.”

Rep. Ken Buck, who pushed Trump’s stolen election conspiracy theory, bashed the deal as “completely unacceptable” and “a major win for Joe Biden” while Rep. Lauren Boebert whined that “Conservatives making these half-baked compromises year after year is exactly why we’re $31 TRILLION DOLLARS in debt right now.”

“No one claiming to be a conservative could justify a YES vote,” wrote Rep. Bob Good.

Included in the deal to raise the debt ceiling for two years, according to a GOP fact sheet, are a cap on non-defense spending, expanded work requirements for certain adults receiving food aid, and the restarting of paused student loan payments. But for the MAGA loyalists, the agreement is not fiscally conservative enough.

“Catastrophic deal,” former Trump advisor Steve Bannon wrote in a series of posts on conservative social media network Gettr, calling the agreement “a total surrender.” The deal, Bannon told Newsweek in an interview, will “condemn the United States to decades of lost economic growth”

Sen. Rand Paul, meanwhile, tweeted, “Fake conservatives agree to fake spending cuts… Conservatives have been sold out once again!”

Trending

But far-right Republicans aren’t the only politicians in Washington disappointed by the deal. Liberal Democrats have also expressed discontent with the terms. Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, said on CNN Sunday that the White House should be concerned about earning support from members of her caucus, saying she is “not happy with some of the things I’m hearing about.” Jayapal took issue with expanded work requirements for food aid, saying they are “bad policy.”

“This is saying to poor people and people who are in need that we don’t trust them,” she said, noting that the amount of federal aid a SNAP recipient gets is minimal. “The average amount of assistance for SNAP, for example, is about $6 per day.”

Texas hires former Wisconsin HC Paul Chryst

Paul Chryst spent over seven years as Wisconsin’s head coach. However, with Wisconsin and Chryst parting ways, the former head coach has found himself a new job.

Texas is hiring Chryst as an offensive analyst/special assistant to the head coach, via Sam Khan Jr. and Jesse Temple of The Athletic. Alongside Chryst, Texas hired former NFL special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis and former Portland State DC Payam Saadat as special assistants.

Chryst was hired by Wisconsin prior to the 2015 season. Over his tenure with the Badgers, Chryst’s teams held a 67-26 record. They won the Big Ten West three times and won six of their seven bowl game appearances. Chryst himself is a two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year.

However, with Wisconsin started the 2022 season 2-3, the Badgers decided to move on from their head coach. Now, he has landed on his feet with Texas.

Alongside his work at Wisconsin, Chryst comes to the Longhorns with plenty of coaching experience. He was Pittsburgh’s head coach for three seasons prior to the Badgers. Furthermore, he was an offensive coordinator at numerous schools including Oregon State, Illinois State and Wisconsin.

Paul Chryst will be in a much different role than he is used to. Steve Sarkisian calls the shots for the Longhorns. However, even as an analyst, Chryst will have an opportunity to build back up his credibility. Furthermore, Texas is coming off of an 8-5 season and looking to do even more damage in 2023. Chryst will now be a part of the Longhorns uprising.

Dear PlayStation: we don’t want your awful live service games

Fairgame$ trailer

Fairgame$ – it does seem to be a multiplayer shooter (Picture: Sony)

Another reader is unimpressed by the PlayStation Showcase and thinks Sony’s obsession with live service games is playing into Xbox’s hands.

There was a Reader’s Feature last week that suggested that the recent PlayStation Showcase would end up being a pivotal moment for this generation consoles and beyond. It seemed to get a lot of negativity from some commentors but I found myself largely agreeing with it. If it had been mildly positive then perhaps it would’ve been fairly quickly forgotten but any other outcome and I think its influence will be felt for a long time.

The outcome we got was certainly an odd one. It was all slickly presented, in that typical Sony fashion, but despite dozens of games and a 1+ hour runtime it never managed to show anything of interest beyond a few of the indie games. The way it started was just bizarre, not with a big new reveal but some awful live service game about robbing a bank. Or at least I assume that’s what it was, they never actually said and I can only assume by the fact that everyone was moving about in teams of three that it’s a shooter of some kind.

Then after that was… another team-based shooter. Except this one was ripping off Starship Troopers in the most blatant way possible. And apparently it’s a sequel to a game I’ve never heard of. Whoever decided to put Helldivers 2 in as the second game of the show: I admire your optimism, but you’re a madman. After that it was all downhill and then you started to get that sinking feeling, when you realise this isn’t going to be the massive reveal event you were hoping for.

When they rushed through the VR games in five minutes, and didn’t manage to announce a single new Sony title, I realised things were going really badly. I also realised that they still hadn’t shown The Last Of Us multiplayer game. Then when Spider-Man 2 was introduced as the last game I realised that, for no sane reason I can think of, they weren’t going to.

Rumours afterwards say Sony were purposefully holding some games back but for what purpose? If they unveil them after Xbox’s event in June then they’re going to look desperate, conniving, and stupid. I don’t think they will though. At this point it’s clear that this drip feed of information is the new way forward for PlayStation… and it sucks.

The strangest thing is they’ve now given Microsoft almost two weeks to prepare something that will outclass them. So they’ll be even bigger idiots than Sony if they don’t try to one-up them. All they’d have to do is unveil one or two first party games – maybe Fable and Avowed – and they’d have done it, because the bar has been set that low.

Ever since Microsoft announced it was buying Activision Blizzard it seems to have turned Sony crazy. I don’t know how much of an influence that was on the showcase (is that why Sony was holding things back?) but to me it seems that Sony has lost the plot. In fact, they’re on the cusp of making such big mistakes they could lose the generation.

Remember when the Xbox 360 was so far ahead in its generation and then it started losing the plot and wasting time with Kinect and all that rubbish? And then PlayStation 3 sneaked up behind and beat it. I can see exactly the same thing happening with this gen and these stupid live service games.

Why is Sony suddenly obsessed with them? It’s never had any success with them before, that would explain why you’d go all in with them. Nobody has really. Ubisoft tried this exact plan already and it’s been a spectacular failure, that’s left them in their worst position for years and ripe for acquisition themselves.

Nothing Sony has been doing lately gives me any confidence that they know what they’re doing and while Microsoft are great at missing an open goal, they’re going to have to put in a lot of effort to mess this one up. I’ve got both consoles, so I’m not necessarily rooting for one side or the other, I just want both of them to stop being stupid and start putting out some good games again.

Do you remember when console manufacturers used to do that? Nintendo does but I think Microsoft, and particularly Sony, have forgotten.

Physical video games copies are a legacy that should never die

Video game shop shelves

An increasingly rare site

A reader muses on the move from analogue to digital gaming and hopes that there’s always a place for physical copies of video games.

I live in Birmingham, a thriving, multicultural metropolis where there is something for everyone.

It’s changed a lot over the years, shops and trends have come and gone but there is one shop here that’s stood the test of time and is still going strong today.

I won’t name it, but it is a vinyl record shop and if you ever had the good fortune to go in there, it feels more like a celebration of music and this wonderful medium it was presented on along with all the interesting sleeves the vinyl singles and albums came in.

Why am I telling you this?

Simple, music in my opinion was probably the most important art form of the last one hundred years and they found a great medium to showcase it on.

Games have had a slightly shorter life span than music but a far more accelerated one.

I think games, music and film have all followed a similar path in their respective art forms, as far as being accepted by the stubborn masses who have opposed it as a passing fad.

We’ve all been on the receiving end of it.

‘What are you listening to that for?’

‘Things where so much better in my day when they could really sing/act’.

There are still people today who claim not to be gamers because they don’t own a console, yet are glued to their device playing some Bejeweled clone on their commute into work.

The media have always liked to jump on it too. Whether it was claims that if you played a record backwards and got messages from the Devil himself or priests outside the movie theatres when the Exorcist premiered. Or the rather constipated looking bad guys in Night Trap influencing small children to do bad things.

It was all part of a huge, elaborate plan to turn you into the absolute hell raising terror you are right now, as you sit on the toilet reading a Reader’s Feature on the GameCentral website.

All three art forms have certainly been through the mill as far as bad press is concerned and all three have took it, reluctantly, on the chin. The quality stuff still stands the test of time today, though, as it always does.

Another thing they all have in common is all three have found a format they were comfortable with, then moved onto a digital disc format and now are inevitably heading towards an internet streaming-only model.

This isn’t a bad thing of course, it’s environmentally friendly, easily accessible, and probably cuts piracy down too.

There’s still something about looking at shelves full of games and picking up the boxes that just feels more in tune with me as a gamer though. I loved the way the artwork and screenshots tried to seduce you into parting with your hard-earned cash for them.

The smell of the manuals, remember them? Just seeing the game there, when you knew it wasn’t there the day before, got my heart racing and made me want to pick it up straight away.

The high streets definitely don’t have the same choice as far as gaming is concerned these days. So the call for it is definitely not what it once was but, hey, that’s progress for you.

Which brings me full circle to that staunch little record shop in Birmingham. I’m totally OK with a format-less future for gaming, it’s an inevitability after all, but I hope in some corner of my town, and everyone else’s, there will be a similar shop for gaming enthusiasts like me to go browse, pick up boxes, purchase, talk, and celebrate what is truly good about our beloved art form.

Tyler Herro savage clap back at Stan Van Gundy after insulting his fashion

During the Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics, former coach and current analyst Stan Van Gundy jokingly roasted Tyler Herro for his poor sense of style, saying the team needs him back on the court because he has such bad fashion on the bench. Well, it appears Herro took that personally.

Take a look at this savagery. Via NBA Central:

Van Gundy loves to crack jokes. By the looks of it, Herro wasn’t totally serious with his clap back either considering the laughing emoji. But, that one will sting.

The 63-year-old coached for many years in the NBA, even spending time with the Heat in the early 2000s. His most recent head coaching gig came in 2020-21 with the New Orleans Pelicans, but he was fired. To say Van Gundy was “bad” on the sidelines is slightly inaccurate, though. After all, he took the Orlando Magic to the NBA Finals in 2009 and also made the conference finals on two other occasions.

Clearly, Tyler Herro is just salty. The guard has been out since the first round after breaking his hand and has no clear timetable for return. There is a chance he returns for the Finals if the Heat make it though. Herro has begun some basketball activities, although he’s not shooting quite yet.

Miami will be looking to close out Boston on Saturday night after dropping back-to-back games. The series currently sits at 3-2 heading back to South Beach. Herro will be on the bench as always with a statement outfit, I’m sure.

The Beast strikes back on Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions

At Night of Champions, the WWE Universe was treated to the newest chapter of “The CodyVerse” and like any good trilogy – or at least like the original Star Wars trilogy – this chapter ended in defeat, with the hero’s camp wondering if he will ever be able to overcome the big, bad boss after suffering such a crucial blow.

The proceedings opened predictably enough, with Cody Rhodes quickly realizing that his titanium cast could be used as a weapon and using that information to good effect by whopping “The Beast Incarnate” repeatedly with the legal arm enhancer. Still, this wasn’t some magic pill that took away Lesnar’s power, as, in his opinion, he could still lock up “The American Nightmare” in a Kimura and grind his bones into dust.

In essence, this was the core thesis of the contest, with Rhodes using his cast and his craftiness to land Cross Rhodeses and Lesnar instead focusing on his submission game, with just one F5 thrown over the 10-minute match. Rhodes would get the upper hand, looked like he was going to secure a second-straight win over Lesnar, and then, like clockwork, he’d be sitting on the ring apron in agony, trying desperately to get the strength needed to get to the Night of Champions ropes.

This went on for much of the end back-half of the match until, after eating the aforementioned F5, Lesnar locked in the Kimura once more, and this time, Rhodes couldn’t get out of it, instead losing consciousness and taking the loss like Luke Skywalker, who also found himself defeated with one arm at the end of his second fight with the big bad.

Let’s hope SummerSlam provides the positive resolution fans desperately desire, as it’s hard to imagine this storyline getting many more wrinkles before it comes to an end.

Bucks finalizing contract with Adrian Griffin to be next head coach

The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly finalizing a deal with Toronto Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin to be their next head coach, per Adrian Wojnarowski. Although nothing is official as of this juncture, Griffin is on track to be the next head coach of the Bucks.

Wojnarowski later shared another update on the developing situation.

“The Bucks are beginning work on financial terms of a contract with Griffin and a deal is expected to be reached soon that’ll make Griffin the franchise’s next head coach, sources said,” Wojnarowski wrote on Twitter.

Shayne Gostisbehere’s beautiful message to Carolina

The Carolina Hurricanes fell short of the Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday night. And now many of the team’s upcoming free agents are left wondering what’s next as the summer approaches.

One of those pending free agents is defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere. The 30-year-old blueliner came over in a midseason trade with the Arizona Coyotes to help bring an offensive touch from the point.

Gostisbehere’s performance did leave a bit to be desired. However, the veteran played a reliable role for Carolina as they marched to the Eastern Conference Finals. Whether it’s enough to keep him in a Canes uniform remains to be seen.

Gostisbehere, to his credit, wants to remain with the team. He mentioned the difference between his time in Carolina with his time in Arizona at the beginning of the year in Friday’s exit interviews.

“I was talking to my wife and I said it felt like we’ve been here longer than we were in Arizona this year. We got close to some guys in a short period of time,” Gostisbehere told the media on Friday, via Hurricanes reporter Walt Ruff.

Prior to joining Carolina, Gostisbehere certainly played a major role for the Coyotes. He scored 10 goals and 31 points in an Arizona sweater. With Carolina, the 30-year-old scored three goals and 10 points in 23 games.

His performances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs didn’t make him a star, however. Gostisbehere scored no goals in 15 games. Furthermore, he recorded just three assists. In fact, he had no points in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Gostisbehere provides value as an offensive-minded defenseman. And in a weaker free-agent market this summer, a team certainly will come calling. Only time will tell if an alluring payday is enough to coax him out of Carolina.

Phillip Schofield dropped by talent agency amid ITV exit

Phillip Schofield has been dropped by his talent agency following his shock exit from This Morning.

After a lengthy stint on our screens, the 61-year-old departed his position on the ITV program – which he presented alongside close pal Holly Willoughby – last week.

He has since left ITV with ‘immediate effect’ after confirming that he had an ‘on-off’ affair with a younger colleague.

As well as this, he stepped down as host of the upcoming British Soap Awards, with a replacement yet to be announced.

Following his exit, it has now been announced that YMU has ‘parted company’ with Schofield after 35 years.

Mary Bekhait, the Group CEO of YMU Group, told Metro.co.uk in a statement: ‘Honesty and integrity are core values for YMU’s whole business, defining everything we do. Talent management is a relationship based entirely on trust.

‘This week, we have learned important new information about our client Phillip Schofield.

These facts contradicted what Phillip had previously told YMU, as well as the external advisors we had brought in to support him.

‘As a result, on Thursday we agreed to part company with Phillip, with immediate effect.’

Schofield told Metro.co.uk, via his lawyers, that he had ‘stepped down’ from being represented by the agency.

‘It is with the most profound regret that after 35 years of being faultlessly managed by YMU I have agreed to step down from their representation with immediate effect,’ he added.

The news comes just after Schofield admitted to having an affair with a much younger man who worked behind the scenes on This Morning.

The presenter had served as the face of the weekday program for more than 20 years and came out as gay on the ITV sofa in moving scenes in 2020.

He announced his exit from the program last week amid reports of ‘tensions’ with Willoughby.

‘I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning,’ he said at the time. ‘But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

‘Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.

‘I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love. So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.

‘I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.’

In a bombshell move earlier today, Schofield provided a lengthy statement to Daily Mail earlier today, in which he admitted to an affair with a younger colleague while he was still married to Stephanie Lowe, his wife of 30 years.

He said that he met the unnamed man when he was a teenager – and that things developed into ‘more than a friendship’ after they began working together.

The Cube host insisted that, while he lied about this to his bosses and other colleagues, their relationship was ‘unwise but not illegal’.

‘I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning,’ he said. ‘Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.

‘In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven’t been truthful about the relationship. But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fueled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting him, so for his sake it is important for me to be honest now.

‘I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.’

‘I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me,’ he added, vowing to keep his colleague’s identity under wraps.

‘I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it.’
